Our arrival in the war zone of Eastern Ukraine (Donetskaya oblasty) was already from the first checkpoint, enveloped by an atmosphere of serious and thoughtfulness, certainly also as a result of our expectations.
The places that we were able to experience in daylight during the following days were like an apocalyptic movie scene. In the ruined and mostly deserted buildings, we started our home visits and distributed food rations for about a month, as well as sweets, scarves and caps for the respective children of the families.
For some older ladies we were able to help with warmer living conditions, such as insulating windows, roofs and other construction measures.
The journey gave us a reasonable overview of further useful approaches and projects in the context of development work. Furthermore, important contacts could be established with helpers and active local communities / organizations.
